As the name suggests, microneedling is a cosmetic process that uses small, sterilized needles to pierce the skin. This procedure triggers natural healing underneath the skin, causing increased collagen production and making the skin smoother, firmer, and youthful. This procedure is used on the face to lower the appearance of acne, scars, dark spots, wrinkles, etc. Now, the question is, can microneedling solve different skin issues, and at what cost?
What skin
conditions does microneedling fix?
This procedure will be helpful to treat different skin conditions and depression on the skin, like acne scarring, surgical scars, burns, etc. This procedure may sound invasive but does not produce too much heat on the skin. Hence, if you have melasma and hyperactive pigmentation, you can take microneedling without any pigmentation issues. During topical treatments, microneedling is used, which goes deep into the skin efficiently. It is done before minoxidil is applied and is primarily used to treat hair fall and loss issues.
What happens after
microneedling is done?
There is minimal downtime. Following treatment, you might experience some discomfort. Your treated skin may appear somewhat red (for lighter complexion tones) or darker (for darker skin tones) right after microneedling. Your skin may feel slightly uncomfortable, burn, or swell as if sunburned.
Usually, these reactions go away within a few days or a week. Your dermatologist might advise using an after-treatment aftercare cream to calm your skin in the interim. Even though microneedling treatment might cause a little pain, you can leave your dermatologist's office and return to work or school immediately.
How long does
micro-needling treatment take
It depends on many conditions and areas of the body your dermatologist is treating. For instance, treating fine lines on the skin just above the upper lip may take some time. Microneedling effectively removes stretch marks on the hips but takes a 15-30 minute micro-needling session.
