Flying out of its main hub at Doha Hamad International Airport , Qatar Airways operates a diverse long-haul network using a wide variety of twin-aisle aircraft from both sides of the industry-dominating Airbus-Boeing manufacturing duopoly. The largest of these is the Airbus A380, of which ch-aviation currently has ten examples in its fleet.
The site lists seven of them as active at the time of writing, one is undergoing maintenance, and two are in storage. According to aeroLOPA, these double-decker quadjets feature 517 seats, distributed as eight in first class, 48 in business class, and 461 in economy class. This summer, Qatar Airways plans to deploy its A380s on an interesting mix of routes.
Qatar Airways Has Scheduled Almost 350 A380 Flights In June
According to Cirium, a aviation analytics company, Qatar Airways has scheduled a total of 349 flights with the Airbus A380 for June.Together, these services will offer 180,433 seats and 785,351,952 possible seat miles.London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is the carrier's top June destination for the type, with twice-daily flights from its Doha hub.
The only other place where Qatar Airways' Airbus A380s will visit more than once each day is Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), with 39 trips to the Thai capital and 38 Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) will be served daily, while Perth (PER) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) will receive 24 and 22 rotations, respectively. Qatar Airways is quite proud of the passenger experience that it has developed on the A380, and it states
July Will See Fewer Routes But More Uniform Frequencies
In July, Qatar Airways has planned 372 flights with its Airbus A380 fleet, offering 192,324 seats and 764,968,710 available seat miles. This equates to an average of 12 flights per day, making July marginally busier than June for the airline's superjumbo fleet.A notable trend in the July schedules is that there are fewer routes but with more uniform frequencies.
Indeed, while the number of corridors served drops from five to four in July, their average frequencies are much more straightforward, with these routes from Doha Hamad International Airport either served once or twice a day by Qatar's A380s.
The most popular airports are London Heathrow and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, with two flights every day. Meanwhile, Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport and Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France, continue to receive daily coverage.
August's Frequencies Are Identical To Those Of July
In August, Qatar Airways will undoubtedly uncover a plan that works for its Airbus A380 fleet, as the aircraft will fly the same routes and frequencies as in July. 3. 2. Because the so-called "superjumbo" is a large aircraft, only a few routes can manage the demand required to load the double-decker quadjet. Using these aircraft, Qatar Airways can ferry huge numbers of passengers to its Doha hub to connect onto flights elsewhere in its network.
The A380 is far from the only aircraft type used by Qatar Airways on the route from Doha to London Heathrow. Indeed, in August, this corridor will also be served by planes from the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 families. Meanwhile, Bangkok's new routes are flown by Boeing 777s and 787s, and Paris sees the A350-900 and the 777-300ER. However, Sydney is only served by the Airbus A380.
