At Alaska Airlines EWR Terminal, Alaska Airlines provides a hassle-free, seamless travel experience. Security lines moved more quickly than anticipated, check-in was speedy, and the staff was actually friendly—unusual for Newark! The station itself isn't very ostentatious, but it's tidy and effective, and there are enough coffee and snack options to keep you going. The flight began with little tension because the boarding process was well-organized and punctual. Overall, for a large metro airport, it was a reliable and unexpectedly enjoyable experience.
Alaska Airlines operates out of Terminal A at Newark, which is one of the more modern terminals at the airport. It’s relatively easy to get to, whether you’re taking a taxi, a shuttle, or using public transportation. The terminal is well-connected to major highways, so if you're driving yourself, finding the parking garage isn’t too difficult.
As a New Jersey resident, the drive to EWR from surrounding areas (like Hoboken or Jersey City) is a breeze, especially if you avoid peak travel hours. Public transportation also makes it accessible, with several NJ Transit options and the AirTrain connecting directly to Terminal A.
When it comes to checking in, Alaska Airlines has made the process smooth and efficient. There’s a variety of options available, including self-service kiosks, a mobile app, or counters with friendly staff available to help if needed. Since I had checked in online already, I was able to bypass the traditional counter and use the kiosk for my boarding pass. The self-service check-in kiosks were quick to navigate, allowing me to print my bag tags without a hitch.
Despite a few busy moments, the staff at the counter appeared well-trained and helpful, so if you’re not the most tech-savvy, there’s still the traditional option of getting in line to have someone assist you directly.
Security lines can often be a nightmare at major airports, but this wasn’t the case at Alaska Airlines’ EWR terminal. The TSA checkpoint at Terminal A seemed relatively well-organized. The line moved swiftly, and I noticed that the TSA agents were working quickly without causing any unnecessary delays. For those who don’t want to wait, there is the TSA PreCheck option, which offers an expedited process.
I was through security in under 20 minutes, which is a pretty solid time for a major international airport like EWR. This level of efficiency made me feel like I was off to a good start, and it set the tone for the rest of my airport experience.
Once through security, I was pleased to find that Terminal A has a nice selection of amenities. The terminal is spacious and feels open, with plenty of seating options, which is important when you're faced with a longer wait before your flight. I particularly appreciated how clean and bright everything was. It’s easy to find your way around, with clear signage pointing you toward the gates, bathrooms, and food options.
In terms of food and shopping, Terminal A offers a decent range of options. There’s a Starbucks if you're craving coffee, but you can also find sit-down restaurants, snack kiosks, and a few other options to grab a quick bite before your flight. The food offerings here are generally better than your average airport fare, and there are plenty of places to grab something substantial if you're looking for a meal.
For those who need a break from the hustle and bustle, there are some quieter areas to relax in, as well as charging stations near seating areas. Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, making it easy to stay connected while you wait for your flight. Alaska Airlines also offers access to its lounge, which provides an even more comfortable experience if you’re a member or have access through a credit card or your ticket class.
When it came time to board, I noticed that Alaska Airlines operates a fairly efficient boarding process. There was no sense of chaos, and the gate agents kept everything moving smoothly. The boarding zones were clearly communicated, and there wasn’t a lot of standing around. I’ve experienced much more frustrating boarding processes at other airports, so it was a breath of fresh air.
Onboard, the experience was just as positive. Alaska Airlines has a reputation for good service, and this flight didn’t disappoint. The cabin crew was friendly and attentive, offering snacks and drinks with a smile. I opted for the free beverages, which was a nice touch. The seats were comfortable, and the in-flight entertainment options helped make the time pass quickly.
Even though the flight was relatively short, I appreciated that Alaska Airlines made sure the experience was pleasant from start to finish. I found the service to be on par with other major carriers, and I felt well taken care of from the moment I boarded until we touched down.
Overall, flying Alaska Airlines out of Newark Liberty's Terminal A is a positive experience that makes traveling through EWR much less stressful than I had anticipated. From the ease of check-in to the efficiency of security, everything ran smoothly. The terminal itself is spacious, modern, and well-equipped, offering plenty of dining, shopping, and relaxation options to make the wait more enjoyable. The flight itself was comfortable, and the service from Alaska Airlines was top-notch. If you’re flying through EWR, I highly recommend giving Alaska Airlines a try. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, you can rest assured that they will make your airport experience as stress-free and efficient as possible.
